I had always thought it would end suddenly and quietly, leaving nothing; snuffed out like a dimly lit candle because the rest of the universe got sick of our nonsense. I imagined it would be rather T.S.- Eliot-esque: 'this is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper'. A silent implosion, then nothing. It's strange how accurate my imagination turned out to be.
